Overview

A storyboard is a vital narrative part in animation because it allows a transition between the script (from a text) to animation. A storyboard specifies to animators what they have to do by giving instructions on rhythm, how to animate a specific scene etc. A storyboard contains many details such as dialogs, special effects, camera moves.

A storyboard is made of a succession of separated drawings which represent shots. If storyboards for live-action movies can be very simple (one picture per shot), storyboards for animation have to be more precise: most of time, a shot or a scene will be composed of many drawings.

TVPaint Animation's own storyboard module is described in the subsequent pages of the user manual. You can download the Summer Vibes_Leo_Fernandez.tvp Project which is used throughout this section:

Most of the storyboarding functions that will be covered in this part of the manual are only available in TVPaint Animation Professional. TVPaint Standard only offers the possibility to have a single Clip per Project.
