Canvas background and layers
TVPaint projects are made of Layers which can be seen as celluloids (transparent sheets). Those layers are stacked on top of each other. The layer at the bottom of the Layer Stack rests on a canvas background which, unless specified, will not be taken into account when exporting your project.
By default a new TVPaint project's Canvas Background will appear completely white. However, the Canvas' Background is actually transparent.
Making the Canvas Background appear white allows users to quickly start drawing without having to create a background layer which they would have to fill with white just to see their drawing better.
You can however choose the way TVPaint displays the Canvas' transparent background by clicking on the Background button located at the bottom of the Layer Stack:

You can set the canvas background display to:
- None: select this option and the Canvas Background will be shown as black.
- Color: choose this setting to make the Canvas Background appear filled with the color of your choice.
- You can change the default color by clicking on the colored square and selecting a new color with the picker tool.
- Check: select this option if you want the Canvas Background to turn into a check pattern.
- This option is especially useful if you wish to remember that the canvas background is always a transparent background.
- You can change the pattern's colors by clicking on the colored squares and picking up a new color for each one of them.
